The Pre-Budget Report 2009/2010
9th December 2009.
AS Alistair Darling announced his Pre-Budget report today it reminded me why I am a member of the Labour Party because I believe in fairness. Labour's priorities have always have been for the many not the few and today's report put's these values in to practice.
admittedly times are hard for all and it is important that Labour does what it can to help people during these difficult times and aid economic recovery. Today, Alistair Darling has done the right thing.... protect frontline services invest in growth and promise to reduce the deficit.
The Tories on the other hand would cut spending immediately harming public services and damaging economic recovery. Do you remember the Tories of the past? low growth, cuts? Let's not go back!
Only a Labour Government can be trusted with putting the economy right and at the same time ensuring fairness and protection of our public services.

The Minimum Wage's 10Th Anniversary
19Th April 2009.
THE National Minimum Wage has recently celebrated it's 10Th Anniversary and has brought fairness into our society.
10 years ago, there were many who said the Minimum Wage would never work - that it was a step too far. Many Tories including David Cameron actively campaigned against the Minimum Wage - even when some people were earning as little as £1.20 an hour.
A decade ago, trade unions and the Labour Government fought for the Minimum Wage, while the Tories mounted a whole-hearted campaign against it. Fortunately, the battle was won, but senior Tory MP Christopher Chope is trying to introduce a new law that would allow people to opt-out of Minimum Wage payments - effectively killing the legislation. He would drag us back to the days when many people were left on poverty pay.
Labour Councillor Richard Bertin says: " Today we celebrate the Minimum Wages 10Th anniversary. We now have a stronger, fairer society with people not getting poverty pay. Now we have Tories again trying to take us back. We need to make sure that this doesn't happen and that we build on the success of the introduction of the Minimum Wage."
