My Details
My name is Councillor Richard Bertin and I am a Member for the Court Ward. I am an Independent Councillor on the Council and part of the Court First Team. I first became a Councillor with the Barry Town Council when I was elected in 1999. As an active campaigner, I can often be found in articles or in the letters page of the local press.
I was elected to the Vale of Glamorgan Council in May 2004 and my interests are Housing, Social Services and Transport. Born in 1972, This is my second term on the Vale Council. I was educated at St. Richard Gwyn RC High School Barry and Barry College Aeronautical Section. I am employed by Cardiff Bus where I am a Unite Union Member and I have two children.
First and foremost I am the Independant Councillor for Court Ward. Why i am an Independent? I was previously a Labour Party Councillor but I have quit because I do not feel I can be part of a group that is not an effective opposition party, support's all Woman Shortlists which unfairly bars male members from standing, and bullies it's members.
Being an Independent Member DOES not mean that I do not have political views, but DOES mean I can help my community without having the ties and constraints of Party Politics.
My hobbies include reading, walking and camping.
